Genesis 20

Genesis 20 (Abraham & Abimelech)

Abraham & Sarah travel to Gerar.

Abraham instructs Sarah to act as his sister again.

(20:2) and there Abraham said of his wife Sarah, “She is my sister.” Then Abimelek king of Gerar sent for Sarah and took her.

God came to Abimelech in a dream and warned him that Sarah was the wife of Abraham.
(20:3-7)

v. 8-10... Early the next morning Abimelek summoned all his officials, and when he told them all that had happened, they were very much afraid. Then Abimelek called Abraham in and said, “What have you done to us? How have I wronged you that you have brought such great guilt upon me and my kingdom? You have done things to me that should never be done. 10 And Abimelech asked Abraham, “What was your reason for doing this?”

*Abraham has to openly deal with the lie he told.
Though Abraham was guilty and in sin, because he was a friend of God receives the favor of God and instead of becoming a prisoner of Abimelech, The king blesses Abraham and in return Abraham prays for Abimelech and God heals him/the women of the land. (20:16-18)

16 To Sarah he said, “I am giving your brother a thousand shekels[a] of silver. This is to cover the offense against you before all who are with you; you are completely vindicated.”
17 Then Abraham prayed to God, and God healed Abimelek, his wife and his female slaves so they could have children again, 18 for the Lord had kept all the women in Abimelek’s household from conceiving because of Abraham’s wife Sarah.

**Abraham sinned against God when both he and Sarah lied about her being his sister. As a result we see several things lost that we too suffer when we sin.

The lie cost Abraham:

His character
His testimony
His ministry

The HOPE:

Like Abraham & Sarah, we too can be forgiven and restored!

*Abraham and Sarah made a new beginning and so can we!

SO thankful for the Lords mercy & grace,

Hannah
